Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will meet with Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), on Wednesday in a bid to win the support of opposition parties against the Center's law on control of administrative services in the national capital.
The leaders' meeting will take place on Wednesday night in Uddhav's home, according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Chief Minister Kejriwal will go to Mumbai with his colleague from Punjab, Bhagwant Mann. Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha, and Atishi, a minister for Delhi, will all be in attendance at the conference.
Sharad Pawar, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), will meet with Kejriwal on Thursday, according to AAP.
Notably, Kejriwal spoke with Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, on Tuesday.
Tuesday saw the start of the Delhi Chief Minister's countrywide campaign to rally opposition parties against the federal government's ordinance restricting the postings and transfers of officials in the nation's capital.
The national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the Rajya Sabha “should not” allow the ordinance to pass as he claimed that the Center was “taking away the rights” of the residents of Delhi.
This follows the Union Government's adoption of an ordinance on May 19 that set down guidelines for the GNCTD's “transfer posting, vigilance, and other incidental matters.”
The Supreme Court's ruling in the Centre v. Delhi case is disregarded by the ordinance, which was introduced to alter the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991.
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, said that the opposition parties should reject the ordinance shortly after her meeting with Kejriwal.
“The nation can only be saved by the Supreme Court. Even the media has been bought. The courts and all the agencies are under their authority. To reject the ordinance, I would urge all opposition parties. The ordinance is being opposed by my party. This person will serve as the Supreme Court judge, she stated.
Prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also been working to mobilize the opposition against the Centre.
In this respect, Nitish Kumar visited Mallikarjun Kharge, the head of the Congress, Arvind Kejriwal, and Rahul Gandhi in the nation's capital.
